Kushindokai Competes in Acton Shiai
On Sunday, January 15th four students from Orangeville’s longest-running martial arts school, Kushindokai Karate and Fitness, competed in the Crispin Karate Shiai in Acton.
Kolby Frankland, 7, placed 2nd in both kata and sparring. Braydon Bettonvil, 10, placed 3rd in both kata and sparring. Makayla Currie, 11, competed in kata and took home 2nd place. Elias Tsilimidos, 13, placed 4th in kata and won 2nd for sparring.
“We don’t typically focus on tournament competition at our school,” says head instructor Sensei Michael Fisher. “But with the training our students go through and the expectations we set for them, they are usually well-equipped for competitions. We encourage students who want to try competing; it helps them build confidence which they can bring back into the dojo. We keep the focus on having fun and just giving their best effort.”
